పోతన భాగవతంలో గోవర్ధనగిరి ఘట్టం దశమ స్కంధంలో వివరించబడింది. శ్రీకృష్ణుడు గోవర్ధన పర్వతాన్ని తన చిటికెన వేలితో గొడుగులా ఎత్తి, తనను నమ్మిన గోకుల ప్రజలను, పశువులను దేవేంద్రుడు సృష్టించిన ప్రళయకరమైన వర్షం మరియు వరదల నుండి రక్షించాడు.
కథ సారాంశం:
గోకుల ప్రజలు ప్రతి సంవత్సరం ఇంద్రుడికి పూజలు చేసి నైవేద్యాలు సమర్పించే ఆచారం ఉండేది. అయితే, శ్రీకృష్ణుడు వారిని కర్మ సిద్ధాంతాన్ని అనుసరించమని, ఆచారాల కంటే తమ వృత్తి ధర్మమైన వ్యవసాయం, పశుపోషణకు సహకరించే గోవర్ధనగిరికి పూజ చేయాలని సూచించాడు.
కృష్ణుడి సలహాతో నందుడు మరియు ఇతర గోపకులు ఇంద్ర పూజను మానేసి, గోవర్ధనగిరికి పూజలు చేశారు. దీనితో ఆగ్రహించిన ఇంద్రుడు, గోకులాన్ని నాశనం చేయాలని నిర్ణయించుకుని, ప్రచండమైన గాలులతో కూడిన కుండపోత వర్షాన్ని కురిపించాడు.

శ్రీకృష్ణుడు వెంటనే తన దివ్యశక్తితో గోవర్ధన పర్వతాన్ని చిటికెన వేలిపై సునాయాసంగా ఎత్తి, దాన్ని ఒక పెద్ద గొడుగులా పట్టుకున్నాడు.
గోకుల వాసులందరినీ తమ పశువులు, సామానులతో పాటు ఆ పర్వతం కిందకు వచ్చి తలదాచుకోమని చెప్పాడు. వారు ఏడు రోజులపాటు ఆ పర్వతం కింద సురక్షితంగా ఉన్నారు, వారికి ఆకలి, దప్పిక వంటివి కలగలేదు
కృష్ణుడి లీలను, శక్తిని చూసిన ఇంద్రుడు తన తప్పును తెలుసుకుని, అహంకారాన్ని వీడి వర్షాన్ని ఆపివేశాడు. ఆ తర్వాత ఇంద్రుడు కృష్ణుడిని క్షమాపణ కోరి, స్తోత్రం చేశాడు.

English Version
Described in the tenth canto of the Potana Bhagavatam. Lord Krishna lifted the Govardhana mountain like an umbrella with his little finger and saved the people and cattle of Gokula who believed in him from the devastating rain and floods created by Lord Indra.
Story Summary:
The people of Gokula used to worship Indra every year and offer offerings. However, Lord Krishna advised them to follow the principle of karma and worship Govardhanagiri, which was their profession, agriculture and animal husbandry, rather than rituals.
On the advice of Krishna, Nanda and the other gopakas stopped worshiping Indra and worshipped Govardhanagiri. Angered by this, Indra decided to destroy Gokula and sent a torrential rain accompanied by strong winds.
The people and cattle, terrified by the heavy rains and floods, sought refuge in Lord Krishna for protection.
Shri Krishna immediately lifted the Govardhana mountain with his divine power on his little finger and held it like a big umbrella.
He told all the people of Gokula to come and take shelter under the mountain along with their cattle and belongings. They were safe under the mountain for seven days, without hunger or thirst.
Seeing Krishna’s pastimes and power, Indra realized his mistake, gave up his arrogance and stopped the rain. After that, Indra apologized to Krishna and offered praises.
Through this incident, the Potana Bhagavatam teaches that the path of devotion is easier than the paths of karma and knowledge, and that the path of devotion directly protects the devotees who have complete faith and surrendered to the Lord. Pothana has described this pastime of Krishna with great devotion in his poems, which teaches the philosophy of devotion to the devotees.
