Dhanvantari is the Hindu god of medicine and an incarnation (avatar) of Lord Vishnu. He is revered as the divine physician and the father of Ayurveda, the traditional Indian system of holistic medicine.
According to Hindu mythology, Dhanvantari emerged from the cosmic Ocean of Milk during the Samudra Manthan (great churning), carrying a pot (kalasha) of amrita, the nectar of immortality.
